Mardi Gras Party!
Hey, y’all! Tomorrow is MARDI GRAS! That means two things: Beer and King Cake for breakfast, and the announcement of the lucky winner of our FEBRUARY FEVER GIVEAWAY! You can bet we will be drunk when we choose the winner, so crack open a cold one with us and keep your fingers crossed. It could be you! If you haven’t entered yet, there’s still time (click “Feb Fever Giveaway” above to enter)!
Saturday night my brother and sister-in-law invited us to a Mardi Gras party at the Shangri-La in Austin, and boy, did the good times roll! I was doubly excited because the Shangri-La reminds me of the bars I liked to frequent in New Olreans: dirty, divey, concrete floor, pool tables and a juke box, thrift-store decor, and a diverse selection of patrons, most of whom are funky, odd-ball Austin types.
On Saturday, $10 not only got you in the door, but it got you 2 kinds of gumbo and all the Abita Purple Haze or Turbodog you could drink (which for me, turned out to be five). And the music! The DJs were spinning some excellent tunes on actual records (I super-♥ records) but Mama Digdown’s Brass Band was what really got everyone on the dance floor shakin’ their money-makers, including Yours Truly who danced without shoes despite the 40° temps. (Boogie-feet don’t feel no cold.)
I have included some pictures of the event for your viewing pleasure.

It was cold out there, even with a belly full of gumbo!
Here’s how the band looked…
